چکیده

Water oriented by 14 natural and 8 synthetic polymers, and by I polypeptide, was studied for solubility effects on Na+, sucrose, free amino acids, and other solutes commonly present in living cells. Additional intensive investigation was made of 1 natural polymer (gelatin) and 4 synthetic polymers (methy lcellulose, poly vinylpyrrolidone, polyvinylmethly ether, and polyethylene oxide). Equilibrium dialysis was used to determine distribution coefficients (p-values) between solutes in polymer-oriented water and in external bathing solutions. Effects on oriented water and on p-values for each solute were measured for external salt concentrations, initial polymer concentrations, temperature, agitation, molecular size, and kind o f solvent. Results supported the polarized multilayer phase o f cell water, a corollary of the association-induction hypothesis.

The Role of Different Sugars, Amino Acids and Few Other Substances in Chemotaxis Directed Motility of Helicobacter Pylori

Objective(s) Motility plays a major role in pathogenicity of Helicobacter pylori, yet there is  scarce data regarding its chemotactic behaviour. The present study was designed to investigate the chemotactic responses of local isolates of H. pylori towards various sugars, amino acids, as well as some other chemical substances. Materials and Methods Chemotaxis was assayed by a modified Adler’s...

A unitary cause for the exclusion of Na+ and other solutes from living cells, suggested by effluxes of Na+, D-arabinose, and sucrose from normal, dying, and dead muscles.

1. The effluxes of labeled Na+, D-arabinose, and sucrose from normal muscle and muscle poisoned with low concentrations of iodoacetate were studied. The procedure involved repeated loading with isotope, followed by washing of the same muscle while still normal and at different states of dying. 2. The rates of Na+ efflux in both the fast and slow fraction remained either quite constant or showed...

Studies on the physical state of water in living cells and model systems. I. The quantitative relationship between the concentration of gelatin and certain oxygen-containing polymers and their influence upon the solubility of water for NA+ salts.

The quantitative relationships between the concentrations of solutions of gelatin, polyvinylpyrrolidone, poly(ethylene oxide), polyvinylmethylether, and poly(ethylene glycol), and their ability to reduce the solubility of water for Na citrate are presented. The data in general are in harmony with the polarized multilayer theory of protein (and polymer) dominated water in vitro and in living cells.

Impacts of seed priming with salicylic acid and sodium hydrosulfide on possible metabolic pathway of two amino acids in maize plant under lead stress

Heavy metals pollution is one of the key environmental problems. In this research, the effect of seed priming with salicylic acid and sodium hydrosulfide was investigated on methionine and arginine amino acids contents and some compounds derived from their metabolism as well as ZmACS6 and ZmSAMD transcripts levels in maize plants under lead stress. For this purpose, maize seeds were soaked in s...

Solubility of amino acids, sugars, and proteins*

The importance of biomolecules is well recognized nowadays, owing to their application in many industrial processes, particularly in the food, pharmaceutical, and cosmetic industries. Amino acids, carbohydrates, and proteins are the three types of biomolecules considered in this review. Solubilities of several amino acids and sugars have been measured in water and, more recently, in mixed solve...
